Golden Gate Park
Golden Gate Park is the largest urban park in San Francisco. At 1017 acres, it is in the shape of a long rectangle, similar in shape but 174 acres larger than New York's Central Park. A narrow strip, known as The Panhandle, extends from the eastern end of the park. The park was planned in the 1860s and built in the 1870s on land that was thought to be uninhabitable. The park contains several San Francisco landmarks, including the De Young Museum and the Conservatory of Flowers
